Dorothy Day's Pilgrimage Continues at Casa Juan Diego

Thanksgiving Letter 2010

January for us is November—the Thanksgiving month where we express, celebrate, and salute the great generosity of our readers who have given a positive vote to continue the work of Casa Juan Diego.

We are very grateful people.

It is much easier to tell a person in the midst of crisis that you can help if you have something available for them.

Words are nice, but they don't deliver—we must offer bread, not a stone.

At Casa Juan Diego we can give real encouragement to those who are suffering because of your spirit of generosity. But giving to those in need is not a one-shot deal. The spirit of generosity lingers and can continue to permeate our lives.

When we serve and help others, our generosity leaves traces in our personality which can be a factor in our future decisions. These traces of generosity leave their mark on the personality of givers, which remain with them as they live out their beliefs. Thus, giving does not simply affect the recipient, but also affects the person who gives.

Many, many thanks for your generosity to the poor of Casa Juan Diego. You not only are going to be serving many people with hospitality, food, medicine (our medicine bill is astronomical!), clothing, and transportation, but also provide encouragement to those who have given their lives in the service of the poor.

May the traces of your Christmas generosity continue to be with you.

Please keep us in prayer.
