Population Control: New Ethnic Cleansing: Return of Nazi Eugenics

by Mark and Louise Zwick

Recently, a young couple we know went to a public clinic for pregnancy evaluation. They were overjoyed that their love had produced a child. They wanted so much to share this with the clinic people.

The couple was scandalized.

At their first appointment they were bombarded with information on how not to have children. The message was repeated: "Children must be avoided. Is that clear!"

The couple thought that they had done something beautiful for God in making love-the love of Christ and the church-and producing a new person capable of more love, but obviously, according to clinic staff, they were wrong.

The couple was made to feel they had done something bad. All the patients at the clinic were made to feel that they should never again do this bad thing of getting pregnant.

Hopefully, their minds will be changed before the baby is born. Otherwise, the baby becomes a bad thing.

Possibly, this attitude engendered by our public clinics is the reason for such a dramatic increase in child abuse in recent years. It doesn't take much to go from "Pregnant is bad," to seeing the child as bad.

The young couple suggested to the clinic staff that Natural Family Planning be included among the options presented for spacing children. The employee responded: "These people could never understand that." Perhaps he confused NFP, that has been so successful, with the old rhythm method.

Ethnic cleansing

The young couple felt that the whole Brown and Black group of parents attending the clinic "education" session with them was being subjected to ethnic cleansing. They became even more upset when the leaders began to talk about the requirement of "genetic counseling" for those at risk. If you have ever had anything wrong with any of your relatives (which includes just about all of us), then you must talk to the genetic counselor. Genetic counseling guarantees only perfect children should be born (if we are going to have a master race). The rest must never see the light of day.

There is a growing movement to eliminate Brown babies. This movement is strong not only in the United States, but its proponents are advancing its cause in Latin America to see that fewer Brown babies are born. This movement, called Mobilizing Opposition to Brown Babies (MOB) has even placed the responsibility of Hurricane Mitch squarely in the lap of Brown mothers and fathers.

These mothers and fathers must pay. The MOB is even trying to tie all aid to the hurricane victims to population control, to massive sterilizations of women.

The calls for forgiveness of the external debt for many countries for the Jubilee year 2000 seem to be having an effect. However, the lack of real concern for justice for all is reflected in the pressure to tie Jubilee forgiveness, also, to sterilization programs.

This movement (MOB) targets the poor and the working poor. Its goals confront a culture at its core. Brown mothers and fathers love their babies. The poor, especially, see their children as their riches. They do not see pregnancy as an illness or a curse, but see children as a gift from God. Love of children runs deep in the Latin culture. What a terrible thing to try to destroy the love parents have for their children, to make parents see the child as the enemy, when they often call their little toddlers "Mami" and "Papi."

The MOB is trying to destroy a culture in which family members drop everything in whatever part of the world they are in to participate in addressing a family crisis or burying the dead, a culture where family and children are at the heart of life. The meaning of comadre and compadre is profound.

As Mercedes Arzú has stated so well, "The motives behind such attacks on individuals and families-after all, real human beings are targets when 'population' is criticized-often include unfounded opinions about economic reality. Yet, as many astute observers have pointed out, they also include the puzzling and sinister notion that other people are bad-that human beings are the problem, rather than social injustice, faulty distribution of goods and services and lack of economic opportunity and freedom. The population controllers never seem to see themselves as part of an 'overpopulation problem,' only the defenceless poor, whom they belittle, coerce and seek to reduce in number.

"The fact is that social justice and a more equitable distribution of wealth, together with the natural incentive of free enterprise (including equal opportunity for all in education and economic life), are the true solutions to poverty" (Mercedes Arzú Wilson, Love and Family, Ignatius Press, 1996, p. 176).

Love, meaning, family life, respect for the human person, and social justice are what is missing from the coercive programs of the MOB.

As Dorothy Day said in 1936, "Marxist Communism has been condemned by Catholics for its destruction of family life. What then of capitalism, which creates an ever-growing proletariat ground down to such a level of insecurity and misery that decent family life is almost impossible?" (The Catholic Worker, January 1936, p. 4).

It is all said in the Scriptures when God speaks to Jeremiah: "before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you."

MOB Powerful

The ethnic cleansing people are powerful. Ted Turner of CNN is one of the leaders in the MOB in the elimination of Brown people and collaborates with the United Nations and International Planned Parenthood in this project. He recently made a commitment to the United Nations program of population control in the amount of one billion dollars. This is the group that is insisting on massive sterilizations of whole countries. Planned Parenthood presents itself as a group that helps the community-people often think of it as being as benign as the Boy Scouts. The reality is quite different.

Turner is enraged at Pope John Paul II for disagreeing with him. At a recent Planned Parenthood event he publicly ridiculed the Pope and Polish people. Possibly he did this to support the IPP, which has called for the removal of the Pope and the Vatican from the UN.

Turner apologized after a public outcry and after being compared to Marge Schott, owner of the Cincinnati Redlegs, who was suspended from baseball for racist remarks about Jewish people and African Americans. It is painful to see such bigotry at such a high level.

Turner got away with his bigotry because he insulted Polish Catholics, which is permissible in our culture.

Too Many People?

Arzú shows that the doomsday talk of overcrowding of the world, that the world, teeming with poor people, will collapse, is based on erroneous information or no information at all:

"Many people simply assume that these population control notions are valid because they have heard them so often, especially in the media, and because poverty and want exist in many regions of the world. However, the statistical evidence starkly contradicts the assumption that the cause of poverty is too many people and that reducing the number of people will reduce poverty.

"The United States, England and Hong Kong, and other countries became rich during unprecedented growth in population. The most densely populated nations are among the richest.

"Robert L. Sassone, J.D., notes that the American states of Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York are three times more densely populated than Communist China, the population of which is often described as 'teeming'" (Arzú, p. 165).

Whither the World's Resources?

The MOB is a leader in protecting U. S. resources.

To protect and maintain present life styles, the United States needs a majority of the world's resources. We (U. S.) need close to half of the world's resources and the rest of the world can have the other half-the other 94% of the people.

At one of the first international population conferences, Latin American women were told by U.S. feminists to have fewer babies because the babies were using valuable resources. The Latin American mothers were enraged, for obvious reasons. U. S. women were using so many more resources than they.

Take India, for example. With the average person in the United States consuming forty times the energy of the average person in India, the effects on the planet of the lives of the U.S. population would be equivalent to ten billion Indians. At the rate that the people of India use energy, ten billion of them could live in the U.S. Ten billion is more than ten times the present population of India (from "People vs. the World: a View from another Window," Friends Journal, November 1993. Author Aziz Pabaney is a member of Bombay (India) Quaker Meeting.

Turner Funds Quinacrine

A vaginally inserted pellet, Quinacrine, sterilizes a woman by burning her fallopian tubes and upper uterus with acid. The attraction of this procedure for Turner and others is that it can be performed without advanced training and the pellets cost only a penny apiece. Short-term medical consequences include abnormal bleeding, fetal exposure, uterine lesions, ectopic pregnancies, backaches, fever, lower abdominal pain and headaches. Independent labora-tory studies show long-term side effects could include cancer.

Quinacrine was made by two men in the United States, Dr. Elton Kessel and Stephen Mumford, and exported first to India and Bangladesh. According to The Daily Star newspaper published in Bangladesh (10/21/98), the medical perils associated with it are accompanied by the racist, anti-immigrant views of the two men who developed and sold it: "Even more revealing was the fact that much of quinacrine's funding now comes from strongly anti-immigrantion lobbying groups All of these sources are also big contributors and board members of Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR)-long regarded as a racist, xenophobic organization strongly opposed to imigration from Third World countries."

Quinacrine is not allowed in the United States and was declared unsafe by the World Health Organization in 1993. Dr. Mohan Roo, chair of the Center of Social Medicine and Community Health in India, says the method "has a barbaric history going back to Nazi concentration camps." (EWTN Newsbriefs, 5/18/99).

A Powerful Lobby

You can be sure that Quinacrine will show up again in Honduras and Nicaragua, when UN leaders are already blaming Hurricane Mitch on their Brown babies: "the roots that cause the problems" (Fernando Zumbado, UNDP Carribbean Regional Director).

But Dr. Rafael Cabrera, Dean of Medicine at the American University in Nicaragua expressed his concern to the UN: "We don't want you to take advantage of our poverty by offering us money in exchange for the sterile wombs of our mothers and from the innocent blood of our unborn children."

The Houston Chronicle presented a very different view of what actually happened with Hurricane Mitch (3/14/99, "Outlook" section):

"A tragedy of this scope would commonly be called an act of God, but in recent months, public comments by scientists, government officials and environmental activists in Central and North america have revealed a disturbing truth: Thousands of those who died in the storm were not killed by acts of God-they were killed by acts of humankind.

"A long history of development built on economic inequalities and disregard for local ecosystems had created a landscape on the brink of disaster. When the storm hit, the landscape collapsed.

The United States has consistently encouraged Honduras and Nicaragua-along with their regional neighbors-to agressively increase production of exportable commodities such as cattle, bananas, coffee and melon. But the pursuit of this policy has increased the disparity between the wealthy few and the impoverished masses as giant oligarch-owned ranches and plantations have usurped the lion's share of prime farmland and displaced millions of subsistence farmers.

"Many of the displaced have moved to shantytowns that ring most of the region's crowded cities…. Thousands of peasants have settled on previously uninhabited riverbanks and flood plains at the margins of the city. When Mitch hit, this settlement pattern proved deadly: The hills collapsed in mudslides, damming the river. Water poured freely down the denuded slopes, causing massive flooding. Thousands of people-almost all of them poor-drowned

"Hurricanes will continue to sweep through the region, but sound social and environmental policy can radically reduce the human misery they cause."

Whose Morality?

MOB has also had the help of powerful Planned Parenthood lawyers. We remember so well the Public Television program that aired right after President Clinton vetoed the bill that would have made it illegal to take the life of a child in the process of being born (partial-birth abortion).

Helen Alvaré presented the Catholic case beautifully.

But the Planned Parenthood lawyer took the freedom of conscience argument: How dare you interfere with the doctor-patient relationship? Apparently, according to the lawyer, this was an inviolable right. But suppose the doctor and mother make other decisions-if they want to get rid of an acting-out six year old, or a sick sixty year old grandmother. By her argument, they can do away with them as well-and they probably will.

Catholic personalism presents such a different view of life. We remember how Catholics were taught to baptize a fetus if they had a miscarriage.

It is strange that those who disagree with the MOB are called fascists, whereas as a matter of fact the MOB is promoting precisely what Hitler promoted in eugenics.

Hitler did not invent the ideas of eugenics and a master race. Margaret Sanger, eugenics pioneer, and her followers made no secret about their desire to eliminate persons with disabilities and to combat those racial and religious groups she deemed "unfit." It was only after the Nazis gave it a bad name that advocates of eugenics changed the name so that it would no longer be identified with Hitler, but the philosophy remains the same. Now it goes under names like reproductive rights, reproductive health, overpopulation, genetic counseling, genetic engineering.

It seems that those who cry loudly about a woman's right to choose are the very people who not only do not defend women in who are sterilized without their knowledge or by force, but implement the very programs that do so.

China Lobby

The MOB also has received much support from the People's Republic of China in eliminating babies.

Very recently, a woman from China fled to Australia, pregnant with her second child, to give birth there. Australia has immigration laws like the United States and immediately deported the woman back to China, where the People's Court immediately issued the death sentence for the child ready to be born.

Nightmares

Writing this over several days made the authors think of what might happen if the MOB rule continues to grow, if the majority of society agrees with the MOB. Baby lovers are in a jam. It will be very unsettling. The People's Voice and the People's Government of China can be very powerful, too. Having all of our military secrets, they may one day take over the country and family planning, also. It is going to lead to nightmares-and that is exactly what has happened.

Mark had an Awful Nightmare

In his nightmare Mark was called up North by the People's Government to the beautiful cemetery plot where his parents were buried. In this dream, Mark thought he was being asked to come to say a few laudatory words with his brothers and sisters about his mother. After all, she was selected Mother of the Year in 1975 and traveled all over the country. Mark thought that the People's Court wanted him there because he was critical of Chaing Kai Chek and the Taiwanese government. Dreams are crazy. He was also a 60's liberal and along with Ted Turner's wife, opposed the Vietnam War. Mark also knew you can be for every leftwing cause in the country, but if you are pro life you are considered a rightwing religious nut.

In this dream Mark put on his Sunday best (from the clothing room), and rushed to the cemetery.

He received the shock of his life. His mother and father were being exhumed by the People's Government and the People's Court. The only reason that Mark could imagine this happening was for the canonization process. They were truly saints. After we buried our Dad, who was only '52, Mother remarked as we left the cemetery, "All he knew was work and prayer." That really stuck, even when we were '60's liberals.

But this was not the case. They were being exhumed by the People's Court for crimes against the people and were to be sentenced to death posthumously to give example to others who committed crimes-a deterrance!

Their crime: They gave birth to twelve children.

Mark kept shuffling all over the bed until Louise shook him and woke him up-"What's the matter with you-you shouldn't eat all that cereal before going to bed!

Mark groggily mumbled, "I rest my case." "I rest my case."

The next day we read that Communist China had requested information on Natural Family Planning, because some of their people were unable to tolerate artificial birth control methods (Arzú p.247).
